The DAM Commandments
A week ago, Bozeman Camera and Repair, Nikon and Canon sponsored the inaugural Bozeman Photo Expo, which was an unbelievable success.
Photographers, professors, students, suppliers and all sorts of light-seekers converged on the Gran Tree Inn for an inspiring and informative day of networking and workshops.
I was privileged to be one of the handful of speakers and my topic was, of course, Adobe Lightroom and the importance of having a workflow that works. The session was well attended and I convinced a lot of people that now is the time to finally get their digital life in order.
To that end, I have decided to include in this post, the 10 DAM (Digital Asset Management) Commandments that opened my sermon last week:
Dam Commandments
1. Shoot RAW … a digital negative … a true original.
2. Capture the best quality files.
3. Use metadata to your advantage.
4. Optimize tastefully.
5. Archive for the generations to come.
6. Shoot liberally and edit ruthlessly.
7. Don’t lose images.
8. Be able to find the images when you need them.
9. Spend time on the best images, not the mediocre.
10. Use the same consistent & logical workflow for every job/shoot.
Finally, if you didn’t make it to the Expo, make sure that it is in the calendar for next year. It was a great day!
