Red Squirrel with Cache
A very active and alert Red Squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus) transports a cache, stopping often to look and listen for any signs of danger. Tamiasciurus hudsonicus tranlates to 'the steward who sits in the shadow of his tail'. Global warming may be affecting this species, as a recent ten year study has shown that in the Yukon female red squirrels are giving birth 18 days earlier than than their great-grandmothers. The reason is warmer spring temperatures in the region.
