A watchful Antarctic fur seal amongst the rocky outcropping in Cooper Bay, South Georgia.   The fiery yellow and orange lichen and Antarctic moss provides a dramatic backdrop. Fur seals have made an amazing recovery from near-extinction when during the 19th century, they were hunted mercilessly for their valuable pelts.  believe it or not, they can outrun most humans on land, and like all fur seals they have prominent rolled ears.
