Southern ground hornbill numbers have been declining, due to persecution, habitat destruction, and cultural beliefs. Globally listed as ‘Vulnerable’ by the IUCN they are listed as ‘Endangered’ in South Africa, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland.⠀
